Monster Design Tips From Guillermo Del Toro…

There is a great article/interview with Guillermo Del Toro in a recent New Yorker magazine. The best bit from it is this great bit of advice on creature design…

Defining silhouettes is the first step in good monster design, he said. “Then you start playing with movement. The next element of design is color. And then finally—finally—comes detail. A lot of people go the other way, and just pile up a lot of detail.”

Very interesting quote there. Definitely taking this into consideration. It’s too bad GDT didn’t get his chance to do The Hobbit. I remember seeing Hell Boy II right after hearing the rumors that GDT was on board for Hobbit.  I wasn’t in love with HBII, but I was really blown away by the imagination on display there. I think out of all of the people, not named Peter Jackson, who I’d like to see do The Hobbit, GTD’d be #1. But that ain’t gonna happen. Mountains Of Madness should be quite ridiculous though…
